| History |
| Born into a family of scientists, it was already assumed that Mukuro would follow in his parents' footsteps and continue on with doing some kind of scientific research. From the first day that he could comprehend their speech, they rattled off findings in their research and possible solutions to problems they would come across, though it was all a pointless endeavor. But as the years went on, Mukuro developed a disinterest in their talk, pointedly ignoring them whenever they tried to keep his attention with their words. And the more they tried, the more he grew to hate it. However, those talks ceased when an unexpected explosion took his parents' lives and part of his right eye's vision when he was five years old, which after a slightly botched surgery was now red instead of blue. But without his parents and no other known family members to take him in, Mukuro was left to go from orphanages to foster homes. He never stayed in one place for too long, guardians and foster parents all claiming that there was "something off" about him. That there was no possible way for a child who experienced having both his parents killed and going through an eye surgery to be smiling as innocently or be as cheerful as he was. It wasn't normal. It came to a point when the orphanage where he was currently living considered letting him go off on his own with supervision. He was old enough, being 15 almost 16 years old, and actually had enough street smarts to not do anything that would get him in trouble with the wrong crowd. Course, little that they knew he was already part of the "wrong crowd", learning the skills of manipulation and persuasion to get what he wanted. However, he hadn't counted on an elderly man to take him in at the last moment. His foster parent proved to be rather resilient, pushing onto him his beliefs and ideals... just like his parents tried to do. However, instead of science and technology, it was all about the world of books and literature. At first, Mukuro thought it was all utter nonsense and he performed his usual acts, to try to get the old man to send him back to the orphanage but it didn't work. So he went a step further in his delinquency, which eventually led him to be placed in juvenile hall. Though he tried to break out, being successful twice, the third time restricted his movements even more so than before. The officers had pushed him into doing his studies and tried to see if anything would interest him enough to possibly pursue something when he got out, if ever. And ironically enough, it was during this time that Mukuro remembered the old man's words rather than his dead parents'. Upon hearing that he could be let out early on good behavior, he used the skills he attained on the streets and was able to get out earlier than expected on the condition that he get a job and would be monitored for any indecent activity. He figured it would be easy enough to get a job somewhere in relation to his "interest" in literature and behaving nicely whenever he heard that someone would be visiting him. All a piece of cake. He didn't take into account that he would find an odd sense of amusement in the job that he managed to get at Kokuyo bookstore. Mukuro started out as a lowly stock boy, unpacking things and shelving them in the bookcases and putting the new best-sellers on display. It was all horribly mundane for him, but it was something that he needed to do. But over time, he started to find a twist of amusement working there. The occasional interesting person coming in, the prongs of the usual customers procuring some text or the next novel. He found the people who stepped into the bookstore intriguing and different to the ones he usually associated himself with. Before he knew it, he'd gotten attached to the place. It was then he decided to make his way to the top of the store, or at least as far as his criminal record would allow him. A few choice words every once in a while and possibly a few suggestions was all it took to win the owner's favor over time, gaining him a managerial position. And he knew that with that position came power and more intriguing people, thus introducing him to the more business aspect of the literary world. And he had learned early on that business and manipulation often times went hand in hand. |
